Music Notes: Dave Matthews Band's Everyday hits store racks
Staff Writer Friday, March 9, 2001 Fans of Dave Matthews Band (DMB) will be happy to hear that the new album, titled Everyday, has recently hit store racks. As the ninth album by the guys from Charlottesville, it was produced by Glen Ballard, who also worked with Alanis Morissette. Ballard has aided the band in cutting down their lengthy studio jams and critics have been hailing it. Look for DMB on tour this summer, beginning in late April through the end of July. Also released the same day as the new DMB album was Phantom Moon, a new disc from Duncan Sheik. Bobby McFerrin, the vocalist permanently famous for "Don't Worry, Be Happy" stepped down after seven years as leader and music director of the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra. Instead, he plans to compose orchestral and vocal music and do more singing and recording. The Napster fiasco deepened this weekend as the online company anticipates a court ruling that states Napster cannot list copyrighted songs. If it takes effect, the ruling will eventually block millions of files from being downloaded. Jane's Addiction, which hasn't played a concert since their 1997 reunion tour, will be reuniting once again for the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival, to be held April 28 in Indio, Calif., just outside of Palm Springs. The festival will also feature Weezer, Fatboy Slim, and Chemical Brothers. Britney Spears is looking forward to her first live, televised concert. HBO will broadcast her live Nov. 18 from MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Before that, though, catch Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band on April 7. Kim Mathers, wife of Eminem, filed for divorce March 1. "This is a marriage that apparently just isn't going to work," her attorney, Robert Z. Feldstein, told The Detroit News. The couple tied the knot in June, 1999 and have one child, a five year old daughter. For the first time in eight years, Madonna will be taking the summer stages by storm. A tentative tour is set for June through September, but dates and venues won't be announced for a few more weeks. Courtney Love, lead singer of Hole, recently went on a rampage of fighting back. After Universal Music Group sued her in Jan., 2000 for attempting to break out of her contract, she filed a countersuit last week. Love claims that major labels act as a illegal trust by forcing artists to sign contracts. On the same day, Love revealed plans for a union of recording artists and for an all-star, all-women punk supergroup. As the widow of Kurt Cobain and heir to catalog of Nirvana recordings, Hole announced she wants the unreleased Nirvana recordings to come out on Epitaph Records. On the Billboard Top 200 best selling albums for Mar. 1, Shaggy racked up top place for Hotshot. Rainer Maria's A Better Version of Me hit number one on CMJ's Top 200 list. Look for a new album from Our Lady Peace, titled Spiritual Machines, to be released Mar. 13. In Twin Cities concerts, The Women's Club Theatre in Minneapolis will be hosting Henry Rollins for a spoken word performance on Monday, March 26 at 7 p.m. Tickets are going for $20. The Fine Line Café will host Minnesota band Soul Asylum March 16. The Guthrie will feature Jeff Tweedy of the band Wilco Monday, March 12 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $20. The Mighty, Mighty Bosstones are gracing the Twin Cities with four concerts, March 21-24. All shows will be held at the 7th Street Entry. The 400 Bar on 400 Cedar Avenue South will host Guided By Voices Friday, March 23 and Saturday, March 24. Shows start at 9 p.m. and tickets are $15. Get tickets for David Gray before they're gone! The man most recently known for his single "Babylon" will be at The Quest April 12. |
