1997...
- Bulldozers and a wrecking ball took old Ytterboe Hall down in stages with a shower of bricks.

- Pastor Benson and Jim Pence entered the green jello tournament during homecoming weekend.

- Two thousand dollars was raised in donations with the creation of the AIDS quilt.

- St. Olaf beat Carleton for the first time in six years. With their triumph the team carried the Carleton goat trophy for a victory lap.

- Maya Angelou came to speak to St. Olaf and shared some of her works.


1998...
- Most current seniors arrived at St. Olaf, ready to jump into college life.

- In April a tornado hit St. Peter and its surrounding areas. St. Olaf students and faculty went to try and help repair some of the damage. The campus housed 32 junior and senior nursing majors during the restoration of Gustavus Adolphus College.

- Oliver North visited campus to discuss the U.S. Movement

- Larson coffee house reopened after renovations were made.

- A newly recorded Christmas Festival video aired across the nation on PBS

- Pat Schroeder, the longest serving female House representative spoke in Boe Chapel, to an audience of over 300 people.

- Second semester brought on a housing crunch which forced new and returning students into the lounges of first year dorms.

- The flu virus effected over 400 students.

- The notion of a Target was brought up as an option for Northfield, which in turn caused an uproar among town residents and college students..

- George Stephanopoulos came to St. Olaf. Over 1400 students, staff, and faculty went to hear him speak in Skoglund Auditorium.

- The CAP fee was increased

- St. Olafıs Menıs Tennis season was canceled as a result of a team party, which hospitalized a first year player.

1999...
- St. Olaf celebrates the 125th anniversary of its founding with special events throughout the year.

- Negative chalkings in response to National Coming Out Day prompt campus-wide forums and debate concerning tolerance, civility, and respect.

- Buntrock Commons opens to the public on November 5, symbolically uniting the mind, body, and spirit of the College.

- Katie Larson Œ00 is named a Rhodes Scholar. She is the sixth St. Olaf student to be awarded the high honor.

2000...
- Finally, in October, the new Target store opens outside of town.

- Ole Football team wins Homecomeing game against Augsburg.

- Womenıs hockey is added to the winter sports schedule.

- The evening of March 3, former House Speaker .Newt Gingrich packs Skoglund for a speech titled "Living in the Age of Possibilities."

- St. Olaf hosts the Peace Prize Forum,themed "Striving for Peace: Risk and Reconciliation."

- On April 14, Mark Edwards, Jr., announces he will step down as St. Olafıs ninth president.

2001...
- Itıs time to stop and take a second to realize that, for most Seniors, this semester is it. On May 27, nearly 650 Oles will move from the ranks of students to the masses of alums who have come and gone before, singing this song:




We come from St. Olaf,

Our team is the cream of the colleges great.
