The nation mourned the loss of innocent lives after a 15-year-old freshman started firing a .22-caliber gun at his classmates Monday morning. This recent act of school violence left two students dead and thirteen others wounded.

This latest tragedy occurred in the Santee, a predominantly white middle class suburb of San Diego.

The gunman, Charles Andrew Williams, was perceived as scrawny and was repeatedly made fun of in school. One classmate said, "he was picked on a lot." This treatment seems to be what sparked his out rage.

There have been reports that Williams had mentioned his plans last weekend to several friends and to an adult acquaintance, though no one took him seriously. One friend said, "We didn't want to get him in trouble".

There are also reports that William came to school with 40 rounds of ammunition and fired randomly as people fled down a hallway. When he surrendered to authorities he had eight shots left.

There were a deputy sheriff and an off-duty police officer in the school, who helped keep the tragedy at a minimum. "Without those two, it could have been a lot worse," authorities said.

Williams is being held in a juvenile facility and will be charged as an adult with murder, assault with a deadly weapon, and gun possession.
