St. Olaf, namely the DeansÕ office, has seen many changes over the past few months.

Former Vice President and Dean of Student life, Mary Skorheim, left St.Olaf over the summer for a new position at Arizona State University as Director of Student Involvement.

Her vice presidential spot has not yet been filled and currently the administration is waiting for incoming President Thomforde to decide her replacement.

Greg Kneser is still working as Dean of First Year Students, however he has also been appointed Interim Dean of Student life to replace Skorheim. "I have the best job in the world," said Kneser. "I feel incredibly lucky. I love working with the first-years and their families." He continued by saying, "with the Interim Dean of Student Life position, I report to Dean Pence, and I oversee residence life, public safety, health services, academic support, student activities among many other organizations."

To assist Kneser in his Dean of Student Life duties, current admissions counselor, LaRue Pierce has been appointed assistant Dean of Student life and will help Kneser in areas of discipline and in general duties.

Jacqueline Skinner also left this past year as Associate Dean of Juniors and Seniors. She is now Associate Director for Consortium for the Advancement of Public Higher education in Washington D.C. Her replacement is expected to be announced by October 1st.

Dr. Eida Berrio has been appointed as new Dean of Community Life and Development. As Dean, Berrio in responsible for providing leadership in diversity education, in institutionalizing the college's diversity goals, and in maintaining and celebrating a campus culture where students, faculty and staff demonstrate respect, integrity and honesty in community relations.

Berrio, a native of Panama, comes to St. Olaf from New Jersey Institute of Technology.

Concerning the diversity aspect of her position Berrio said, "I have very broad definition of the word ÔdiversityÕ. We must be sensitive so we don't lose sight in differences in academic, ethnic, economic, cultural, religious and sexual preferences. Each is equally valid." Dean Berrio will be responsible for bringing all differences together to help make St. Olaf a stronger community.
