Pamphlets, booklets, and handouts galore could be found on the second level of Buntrock Commons on Tuesday, September 19, at the fifth annual Senior Countdown. The Countdown is put on by the Career Development Center (CDC) and was organized this year by Pat Smith.

Director Gary Anderson, along with CDC employees Brad Kmock, Tracy Mordory, Andrea Becker and psychology professor Mary Ellen Ross, registered seniors and led them through the various tables laden with information about resumes and cover letters, graduate school, internships and job searching.

The purpose of the event, said Smith, is to "introduce seniors to the steps they should be taking during their senior year so that theyÕre not surprised by things that come up."

If a senior did not attend, Smith recommends that he or she make an appointment with a career counselor in the CDC. This meeting would be more specific to the studentÕs individual needs but would still provide the same information. Any and all students are welcome to discuss their choices with the counselors the CDC provides. The CDC not only supplies information, but will also assist students in building their resume, preparing for an on-campus interview and deciding whether graduate school is for them.

One of the big events coming up for the CDC is the Graduate and Professional School Day on Tuesday, October 10, from 11a.m.-3p.m. in the Black and Gold Ballroom. For this event, other schools come to St. Olaf to discuss the different programs they offer.

The Employer Information Sessions are also coming up; these consist of recruiters from bigger companies and organizations giving out information about the jobs available at their respective corporations. Anyone can attend, and without the worry of a commitment Ð itÕs just an informational session. Target will be the first company on campus, on Tuesday, September 26, from 6-7:30 in the Viking Theater. Other companies holding sessions here include the Peace Corps, Abercrombie and Fitch, General Mills, Inc., Best Buy and Charles Schwab.

For additional dates, times, names and locations, look for the schedules posted around campus, or check it out on the CDCÕs website (www.stolaf.edu/services/CDC, under Job and Internship Connections), or call the CDC at x3268.
