Largely ignored by critics upon its original theatrical release in 1958, Alfred Hitchcock's Vertigo has grown into one of the most beloved suspense films of all time.

The story concerns Scottie Ferguson (Jimmy Stewart), a detective who retires from the force after a frightening case of acrophobia and vertigo. He gets no rest, however, as his old friend Gavin Elster (Tom Helmore) hires him to watch his beautiful wife (Kim Novak) who appears to be haunted by a long-dead relative.

There's much more to the twisted plot, but to reveal more would rob the viewer of the great surprises that ensue. But here's a hint: Novak plays dual roles.

Nominated for only two Academy Awards in 1959, Vertigo has since been hailed as Mr. Hitchcock¹s masterpiece and was selected as one of the American Film Institute's 100 best films of all time. It was also restored to near-perfection by Universal in 1996. Keep a special lookout for the beautiful, dizzy San Francisco scenery and the spectacular musical score by Bernard Herrmann.
