Every former junior high school student in America is all too familiar with it.

The dreaded "I was in the middle of a crowded area stark naked" nightmare leaves middle-schoolers across the country wide awake and loving every article of clothing that they own. It's the dream that makes you want to go out and buy more clothes just so you can be sure that it will never happen. It's the dream that causes you to triple-check yourself in the mirror the next morning just to make sure you really did put on some clothes after taking off your warm, soft, and cuddely pajamas.

If you asked junior Ned Dorff about it, though, he'd say that the dream never bothered him.

"When I have that dream I invite everyone else to get naked with me," he said. Dorff is one of the hosts of Thursday night's "The Naked Show" on KSTO.

You can probably guess from the title that Dorff is telling the truth when he says he doesn't mind being caught naked in public.

The inspiration for "The Naked Show" came halfway through last year, when he and co-host junior Soren Strom-Jensen were having a slow night during another show.

"No one was calling in and stuff so we just decided randomly to strip down to trivia questions," Strom-Jensen said. This slow night inspired the foundation for this year's weekly radio show.

The show primarily features punk rock and mainstream metal, but political rap and reggae are also played from time to time.

"We play good music," Strom-Jensen said. The music, though, comes second to many who listen. There tends to be a lot of variation in the show from week to week.

"It kind of depends on who shows up each week and what kind of mood we're in," Dorff said, "but it's a goal to be naked for each show, definitely."

Dorff and Strom-Jensen have both been involved in KSTO since 1998, when they had separate shows. They both loved their first year, and plan to continue working with KSTO for as long as is possible.

"There's something fun about talking behind a mike and letting the whole school know you're there," Strom-Jensen said. "More people need to listen to KSTO in general, though."

Talk to anyone involved in the radio station and they'll put in a plug for more listeners. The station has had some rough times garnering a large listening audience, and most DJs will tell you that the one thing they want for their shows is more people listening.

"KSTO is a fun place to work," Dorff said. "It's a great medium for expression. People need to support it."

In the end, though, all Dorff and Strom-Jensen want is to get naked.

"We could always use more naked people," Dorff said. "Come on down. If you like punk rock, political rap, reggae, and nudity, then please, please check out the Naked Show."

"The Naked Show" airs on Thursdays from 10 pm to 12 am on 93.1, St. Olaf's very own radio station, KSTO.
