In high school (or at least in my high school) Homecoming consisted of dress-up days during the week (like 80's, disco, Hawaiian, whatever), a school spirit day, junky car decorating, and a parade down to the game on Friday night. And oh, we'd throw eggs at the other Homecoming cars. That was about it. Hence my surprise and delight at the plethora of activities and events available here at St. Olaf. And I was amazed that someone wasn't automatically a social outcast if they didn't attend the game. I heard we won - go Oles!

The best part of the whole set up had to be the musical events. Katnapping's funky foursome got the weekend off to a kickin' beginning. The guitarist was a true bad ass. I especially enjoyed their rendition of Motownphilly by Boyz II Men. You can't go wrong with a repertoire like that. And the Big Wu was also awesome; though I was a little concerned about the crowd. There had to have been a bunch of Carlton rascals in there, because the haze over the crowd rivaled that from the Phish concert last month. Maybe they just brought their own fog machine, you know, for ambiance.

Saturday's contrasting orchestra concert was spectacular, especially considering the fact that they'd only been practicing together for about three weeks. It was an interesting segue into the DJ dance party in the Crossroads later on. That was a blast, because everybody there was there to get down and get funky and boogaloo until they puked. Or maybe it was just me....

The only part of the weekend that I didn't think flowed very well was the juxtaposition of it with Parent's Weekend. Several upper-classmen informed me that this hadn't been done before. I could see why - the weekend was just a little too crowded, and some kids couldn't attend the fun concerts and dancing because they were spending time with their parents. That's not really fair for all those St. Olaf students who love both their school and their mom, to make them choose between their loyalties.

But yea, overall, I think that SAC or whoever organized the bulk of the activities did a pretty sweet job. I had a good time, and I hope y'all did too.
