Police are still searching for the driver who hit a female Carleton College student last month and fled the scene of the accident.

The student was about half a mile out of the Northfield city limits running east on the eastbound lane of Wall Street on Sept. 15, when she was struck by a car. The driver of the vehicle did not stop. Neither the vehicle nor its driver have been identified at this time. The student was transported to the Hennepin County Medical Center where she was reported to have been in good condition in the days following the accident.

Skid marks near the scene of the accident may be linked to the vehicle in question, though there is no evidence of their relation to the case. The Northfield News reported that the skid marks are likely to have come from an SUV or truck. If the skid marks are indeed from the accident, they verify the large size of the vehicle reported by the runner. The extent to which the student was injured is still unclear. The Northfield News reported that she was in "good condition."

Rice County Sheriff Dick Cook is urging any one with information to alert the authorities. Carleton has not issued an official statement, and the Carleton news bureau could not verify any of the facts surrounding the case. If you have any information on the case or identity of the driver, please contact Rice County Sheriff Dick Cook at 507-334-4391.
