Pamela Mannebach and Peg Walters, two friendly faces in the office of Residence Life at St. Olaf, received promotions earlier this fall.

Effective Oct.1, Mannebach became interim director of residence life and Walters became interim assistant director of residence life. Mannebach and Walters were assigned new titles and tasks when Jim Benjamin, former director of residence life, left campus to pursue other career opportunities.

Mannebach has been employed at St. Olaf for ten years. Previously, she has worked as hall director at various halls across campus, associate director of residence life, and coordinator for wellness programs.

Mannebach's new position is a restructured version of the former director's responsibilities. Mannebach supervises student housing, the Wellness Center, and the honor houses on St. Olaf's campus. According to Mannebach, "providing what students want out of their residence halls and homes before they know they want it is a large part of my job."

Walters came to St. Olaf College in August of 1994. She has served as the director for Ellingson and Mellby Halls, the area coordinator for Ytterboe and Hoyme Halls, and the director of student activities. Together with her new duties as interim assistant director of residence life, Walters currently fulfills all of the tasks of the area coordinator for Mellby and Hilleboe-Kittlesby.

Mannebach and Walters have both taken on greater responsibilities with their new titles. Mannebach works closely with Nick Wallace, St. Olaf student body president, in order to set and maintain levels of respect and excellence in all aspects of residence life. Walters now advises the Inter-Hall Council and has begun to take on the supervision of student staff positions such as resident assistants, junior counselors, and hall receptionists. "I'm enjoying being a part of these new responsibilities," Walters affirmed. "I've been supervising staff and working with hall councils for a while now, so it is nice to be working on the educational and programming pieces of it."

Both Mannebach and Walters enjoy their new positions in the office of Residence Life. These women take pride in their work and look forward to the interaction they maintain with students. "We are able to see the outcomes of our work almost every day. Ninety-nine percemt of the exchanges we have with students regarding residence life are positive," stated Mannebach.
