Student Government PR Representative Friday, November 10, 2000 Several ongoing issues are being discussed in the student senate this week. The Respect, Integrity, Celebration, Honesty, (R.I.C.H.) campaign is continuing actions to renew each of its namesakes throughout St. Olaf. Petitions will be sent to every student organization, along with every faculty member, asking for a call for action against any behavior that does not show this respect, integrity, celebration, or honesty. Another important issue discussed by executive members of senate, along with Greg Kneser and Dean Pence, pertains to where the college should allow the intercampus shuttle to drop people off, particularly on the weekends. Because of legal liability, the administration cannot let the shuttle travel to any place where they believe alcohol is being served to minors, including the American Legion. While places such as The Grand are still being considered, the shuttle will be dropping people off at any point on Division Street. Senators will be looking for an alternative transportation for upperclassmen. A subcommittee is also going to be hosting a forum and speaker to discuss the recent incident concerning an advertisement in last week's Manitou Messenger. This advertisement was sponsored by an organization that questions the validity of the Jewish Holocaust, and the committee hopes to use this incident as an opportunity to open up the campus for discussion on both the issues of anti-Semitism and respect. |
