Matthew Marohl

Matthew Marohl graduated from Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota, before earning an M.Div. from Luther Seminary in St. Paul. He also holds an M.Th. from the Lutheran School of Theology in Chicago and a Ph.D. in biblical studies (New Testament) from the University of St. Andrews in Scotland. His three books include, most recently, Unexpected New Life: Reading the Gospel of Matthew.

Jennifer Koenig has been the associate college pastor at St. Olaf College since 1997. She choreographed and performed for three years with the professional modern dance company Ballet Harren and later served for three years on the dance and on the fine arts committee at Luther Seminary. Koenig served in parish ministry in Iowa before coming to St. Olaf.

John Gorder and his wife, Gordeen '67, served as ELCA missionaries in Papua New Guinea, Central African Republic, and Nigeria for twenty-three years before returning to St. Olaf as visiting scholars (1987-88). In 1993, John began his role here as Director of Church Relations while Gordeen served as International Student Advisor (1993-1999). From 1999-2011 John was senior pastor at Augustana Lutheran Church of Hyde Park on the campus of the University of Chicago. He and Gordeen are now retired and living in Northfield.

James E. Bobb joins the St Olaf faculty with more than 20 years’ experience directing church music in Lutheran and United Church of Christ congregations. Bobb holds performer’s certificates and M.M. degrees and in organ and harpsichord performance and literature from the Eastman School of Music where his teachers included Russell Saunders and David Craighead in organ and Arthur Haas in harpsichord. His undergraduate work was at Capital University where his teachers were Janet Linker in organ and Frank Hussey in piano.

James Bobb served as Minister of Music at First Congregational Church, Columbus, Ohio from 2009-2012, He also taught organ and organ literature at Capital University in Columbus. For fifteen years prior to that, Bobb served the Lutheran Church of the Incarnate Word in Rochester New York.
