After years of convincing herself she'd make a horrible dancer (and, of course, never trying to prove herself wrong), Becca started swing dancing in September of 2006. Given the fact that she has always loved watching others dance, it shouldn't come as a surprise that she fell in love with swing dancing right away. Now she dances whenever she can, wherever she can, with whomever she can. Her favorite part of Lindy Hop and other forms of swing dancing is the connections she forms with people - both the physical connection of the dance and the social connections. When she's not dancing, Becca is probably running between the music building and the new science center, as a chemistry major and a music pseudo-major.Jamison

Jamison Valenta '09:

Jamison started late - just like everyone else. But, as soon as he arrived at St. Olaf, he has rarely missed a Swing Club. Choosing, in a way, to specialize in Lindy Hop and its slower associated dances has prompted his focus on strong fundamentals, connection, and conversation in his dancing. These ideals have attracted and addicted him to Blues Dancing. Of course, this dance, and his generally slow movement is just really a cover up for how lazy he is on the dance floor. Oops. As far as traveling is concerned, he is still working on getting the travel bug. His first exchange landed him at ForePLeX in the Cities in '06, KCLX in '07, Enter the Blues in Atlanta in '08, and OctoPLeXy '08.

Sean Johnston '09:

Sean began dancing with the St. Olaf Swing Club his freshman year of college and is now a diagnosed addict. Part of the short-lived St. Olaf-Carleton Lindy Performance group in 2006, he dances whenever possible. In his free time (the time he's not dancing), this chemistry and math major does homework and plays bass trombone in the St. Olaf Band. He hopes to attend graduate Mandyschool in biochemistry somewhere a bit warmer than Minnesota!

Mandy Klem '10:

Mandy has been dancing since she was three years old, but nothing could have prepared her for the whirlwind of this dance called lindy hop. Because of the creativity and musicality involved, she was immediately hooked in 2007 and has been striving to be a better dancer ever since. Not only is it a good way to connect with other people, but she also believes dancing to be an outlet for your soul. She loves to bring joy and share her soul with everyone through her dancing and teaching. When not dancing, which isn't often, you'll find her studying Nursing. And if you want to get on her good side, ask her to dance or yell a simple, "Hellooo Nurse!" You'll have her heart forever.
