Speaker of the Month- January: Dr. Kelly Tart - Pet CPR and First Aid

Dr. KellyTart is a professor of emergency medicine and critical care at the University of Minnesota. She is also a St. Olaf alumn! She is coming to teach us pet CPR and first aid as well as answer any questions about studying emergency medicine.

Dr. Wietz is a local equine veterinarian. Come hear his story and learn about being an equine veterinarian!


Speaker of the Month-December: Dr. Peggy Root

Dr. Root is a the Vice-chair of Veterinary Clinical Sciences at the University of Minnesota. She has been a general practioner for many years and is now a reproductive specialist who teaches client communications and ethics. She is going to give a talk on the pros and cons of spaying and neutering your pets. She will also be available to answer any questions about studying general practice at the U.

Guest Talk
In May, the St. Olaf Pre-Vet Club hosted Dr. Marcia Bisel, DVM and Tammi, a veterinary technician from Cannon Valley Veterinary Clinic. Both St. Olaf alumn, they came to talk to the club about the transition from St. Olaf to vet school and give advice on how to pursue our career goals.

Walk for Animals
On April 30th, the St. Olaf Pre-Vet club participated in Animal Humane Society's annual Walk for Animals in Golden Valley, MN. Despite pouring rain, we walked 5 miles around Theodore Wirth Park to raise awareness for homeless animals. For more information visit

University of Minnesota Visit
In March, the St. Olaf Pre-Vet Club traveled to the University of Minnesota to tour the Veterinary School. We also met with the veterinary school admissions counselor.

Don't be a Dick
National Spay Day
In Feburary, in honor of Nation Spay Day 2011, the St. Olaf Pre-Vet Club held a puppy chow fundraiser and raised $50 which we donated to the Prairie's Edge Humane Society. The money went to help lower the cost of spaying and neutering. We also made a board which was displayed in Buntrock Commons for 2 weeks to raise awareness about the problems over pet-overpopulation.
