Status of the NorWord Listserv

The NorWord listserv sent daily Norwegian lessons via e-mail to over 1500 subscribers worldwide from April to December 1995. Approximately 75% of the subscribers were from the US, but the remaining subscribers were from over 30 different countries. The list owners, Nancy Aarsvold and Louis Janus, are currently devoting their time to making Norwegian materials available on the World Wide Web, so there are no new lessons available at this time. However, there is a possibility that the lessons will start again in the fall so please check back to this site for more information later in the summer.

If you have suggestions for sources of funding to help us keep this service running, please send us an e-mail. We have students who would be able to help us run the service, but we have no funds with which to pay them. Below you will find a description of the listserv, subscription information, and a link to the NorWord archive.

Description of the NorWord Listserv

NorWord is an internet mailing list that will teach you a new Norwegian word or phrase every day. With each lesson, you will receive the Norwegian phrase, its meaning, pronunciation, grammatical information, cultural information, examples of its use, and related words and phrases. The lesson also includes short texts written in Norwegian by the subscribers.

Each week, NorWord will focus on a different theme, such as identity, meals, daily activities, family, weather, clothing, etc. The list is appropriate for beginning students as well as intermediate students who are looking for a fun way to review.
