
Some personal notes and introduction.
Retirement Activities
- Served a three-year term on the Executive Board
of CALICO, the Computer Assisted
Language Instruction Consortium.
- 1994 and 1995 national president of AATG, the American
Association of Teachers of German.
- Co-Founder of the Cannon
Valley Elder Collegium, a program of courses for seniors.
- Active member of the Rice County RC Flyers
club.
- Webmaster for the Northfield Rotary Club.
- Completed a lake home near Cumberland, Wisconsin,
and spent many weekends there, now our permanent residence.
- Enjoyed many days with the family "at the
lake" in the summer and continue to spend many weekends there through
fall and winter. Pictures from Aspelien
summer are available.
- Completed several courses in Norwegian acanthus
carving with Phillip and Else Odden (Norsk Woodworks) near
Barronett, WI. Also studied Norwegian flat-plane figure carving with
Harley Refsal from Dekorah, IA. Giving woodcarving classes for seniors at
the Northfield Senior Center, Whillock
Studios, and the North House Folk
School..
- Now operate my own woodcarving business, Anderson Woodcarving,
from my home. I specialize in Scandinavian acanthus relief and flat-plane
caricature figures. Carved pieces are for sale at the Northfield Arts Guild
and for commissions direct from me.
Since completing the home in May 1998 we
have had many days alone and with the kids and grandkids at Granite Lake. In
July of 2007 we decided to make it our full time residence. Here is a look at
the place.

The lot is about 500 feet deep, and the
house is located about midway. Here is the driveway from 7-1/4 Street.

We have chosen the Norwegian name
"Aspelien" for our place, meaning aspen hill, descriptive of the
predominant tree and the slope down to the lake.
