In the summer of 1996, we took some of our "retirement money" and bought a one and one-half acre building site on Granite Lake, about three miles north of Cumberland, Wisconsin. We wanted a site within about two hours from Northfield, or about one hour from Minneapolis. Getting to Cumberland takes just a bit over two hours. To get to our site, take Highway 63 north from Cumberland about three miles to 25 3/4 Avenue. Turn right for about 1/2 of a mile and right again at the "T" in the road, 7 1/4 Street. We are Fire Number 2529 near the end road on the southwest side of Granite Lake. After several delays with getting DNR approval for the septic system, the house was completed in May 1998.
