Stitching the Seams
Completed bow stitching.
Stitching the Coaming
First, I lashed the lip to the coaming. Then, the coaming was installed on the frame: lashed front and rear and stanchions lashed in place. The first stitching of the skin to the coaming is through the lower row of holes. (left) Use a long length of line with a needle at each end. The second stitching attaches the skin just under the lip. (center) I pressed the skin up into the juncture using a putty knife. This stitching also uses a needle at each end of the line. Finally, trim the edge and seal it, then fold it over the top and tuck under. (right) Using a length of line with one needle, sew through the coaming from the outside, hook the fold and then go out though the same hole. This will give a nice, pronounced lip (to hold a spray skirt) while not leaving any stitching in vulnerable places.
