Write a paper on any of the following questions:

 

Hymn to the Aton:

1.      Look at Ps. 104, and compare the Hymn to the Aton with the Psalm.  What is emphasized in each case?  How might the language be compared?

2.      Akhenaton is frequently called the first monotheist.  Do you read this Hymn as evidence of monotheism?  What does it suggest about the relationship between the king and his god?

3.      What is the relationship between Aton and the people of Egypt and between Aton and the people of lands outside of Egypt?

 

Egyptian Scribal Exercise Book:

·        As you read through the descriptions of all of the different occupations, what do you learn about the social stratification of Egypt during this time?  Why is the ability to write a source of status and power?
