Here are some more Loyola questions. In addition to finishing the Autobiography, I want you to look at the three readings in the Appendix. The assignment as a whole is not long.
- Same question as for Monday: what is Loyola's approach to money and material resources? What is your opinion about this?
- What do you note about Loyola's use of the exercises? What role do they play in the mission of the Society of Jesus?
- Same question as for Monday: how does Loyola respond to persecutions? Why do you suppose he keeps encountering these problems?
- Comment on the third document in the appendix, in which is included the five articles submitted to the pope for approval of the Society of Jesus. What is their mission? What are the means by which they approach it? What decisions does Loyola make about their way of life?
- Comment on Loyola's relationships with women throughout the Autobiography.
- Both Luther and Loyola travelled to Rome, and encountered corruptions there. Compare how each responded to these experiences.
- What is your opinion of the military language of the Society? Why might this approach be successful?
