The Burgermeister's Daughter

  1. Again, what do you think of Anna? Does she become more or less sympathetic as the book goes on?
  2. Compare her two lovers, Erasmus and Daniel. Does she seem to have the upper hand in either relationship?
  3. What do we learn about the disposition of property between marriage partners, and among heirs? Do women have any economic power at all in sixteenth-century Germany?

  5. What authorities hear the case? What is their relationship to the participants? What is your impression of their rulings?
