The Burgermeister's Daughter: III

For this last segment of Ozment's account of Anna Buschler, I want you to focus on the moral at the very end. What is Ozment's evaluation of Anna's story? What does it tell us about the rights of women in sixteenth-century Germany?

What is his evaluation of Anna? Was she in the right or in the wrong? How about her father and her siblings? Do you concur with his evaluations?

As you approach these questions, keep in mind the following:

• the terms of Herman Buschler's will;
• the settlement Anna received from her siblings;
• her behavior;
• testimony of witnesses.
