About Us

Now in its fourth season, the Bridge Chamber Music Festival will this year take place in Northfield on June 3, 4 and 5, 2002. The three concerts will consist of professional-quality chamber music, with artists drawn from the Minnesota Orchestra and St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, as well as local musicians. This year's festival will again include events specifically aimed at our area's young musicians, and will include Youth Recitals and Master Classes. Last year's Festival drew audiences of over 300 from the Northfield area, the Twin cities, Rochester, and as far away as La Crosse, WI. The Board of Directors plans to increase not only the size but also the regional quality of the audience.

The Board of Directors has been expanded to eight for this year's Festival. Board members include David Carter, Artistic Director, Barbara Hill, Chair, artist and former owner of Treats Ltd., Chris Bashor, attorney for the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency, Melissa Ousley, Producer and announcer for WCAL, Judy Swanson, graphic designer, Dora Barvir, Board Chairperson of the Cannon Valley Youth Orchestra, Anne Mayer, Emerita Professor of Music, Carleton College, and Eleanor Croone, Northfield Businessperson. These individuals all bring a keen interest in classical music and a variety of relevant experience to the Festival.

The three concerts will feature examples of great chamber music from 1700 to the present day. Chamber music, music for a small group of players, presents all the drama and scope of symphony music, but in an intimate setting that makes listeners feel as if they are in the middle of the performance. Great composers have delighted in composing chamber music as a way of expressing their innermost thoughts. Our festival is particularly important since professional chamber music is underrepresented in Minnesota, with only two concert series in the Twin Cities during the winter concert season, and one other major festival (Festival of the Lakes) in the summer. The performers and the pieces for the Bridge Chamber Music Festival have been chosen carefully to ensure the best musical results. Our audiences last summer were very enthusiastic about the programs and performances.

Bridge Chamber Music Festival is a Non Profit organization, thus contributions are tax deductible.
