Class Information for Math 220 C  - Spring 2005

Text: David Lay, Linear Algebra and Its Applications, 3rd ed.

General Information: You will be expected to read the text carefully and will be responsible for reading the sections before they are covered in class.  Homework assignments will be given during each class period. These assignments will be announced in class and listed on the web syllabus. You are encouraged to find one or at most two other members of the class with whom to work on these homework assignments. You may choose to write up your homework individually or submit one paper for your homework group. In the latter case be sure all your names appear on the paper. Assignments will be due at the beginning of class two class periods following their assignment.

Maple Labs:  During the semester, you will be assigned several computer labs. These labs use the computer algebra system  Maple 8. This program is available on the computers in SC 175 and OMH 108. You will be introduced to Maple during a scheduled class period.  The Final Exam will have a take-home portion on which you will be expected to use Maple.

Exams and Grading: There will be short on-line quizzes due before each class plus 3 in-class exams and a final. The three exams together will account for 55% of your grade. The final will account for 25% of your grade, the homework assignments for 10%, the Maple Labs for 5% and the on-line quizzes for 5%. Everyone must take the exams at the scheduled time unless previous arrangements have been made with the instructor. All exams will be administered under the honor system. You are responsible for knowing and following the honor code. The schedule below lists the tentative dates for the in-class exams and the unalterable time for the final exam.
