American Studies:
The Journal Full Members of MAASA receive subscriptions to the organization's scholarly
journal, American Studies, published three times a year by MAASA with
the assistance of the University of Kansas. American Studies encourages
the interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary explorations of the American
experience. With an editorial staff from a number of areas of study, the
journal offers provocative perspectives on a variety of issues. Frequent
special sections and special issues (such as the Summer 1998 issue on
"Television and American Culture") create a space for a broad
discussion on a single topic. Articles on pedagogy inform the American
Studies classroom. The book review section aims at keeping readers conversant
with contemporary scholarship. The editors at American Studies work hard at maintaining professional
working relationships with authors. Careful, constructive criticism and
timely publication of accepted work is in the interest of all, and the
editors make both high priorities. Both editors and outside readers engage
in a critical process that locates ideas in the broadest circle of scholarly
conversation. The "American
