IRISH SLOW AIRS IN SONGS
A Workshop for Rainy Camp, February 3, 2007, and proposed for Northwest Folklife Festival - 2007
Irish Slow Airs in Songs – Stewart Hendrickson and Paddy Graber
Traditional slow airs were often derived from songs, and many songs are
sung to the tunes of traditional airs. This workshop will explore these
relationships, with examples of both.
Click on the song title for the
lyrics and other background information in html format. Click on nwc for the musical score
in Noteworthy Composer format. You can read this and print the score
using a plug-in
reader available free from Noteworthy Composer. Click on midi for the melody in midi
format.
See: "Chris Langan: Move Your Fingers - Slow Airs"
for more slow airs. A good source of traditional Irish slow airs is the
book “Traditional Slow Airs of Ireland” by Tomás
Ó Canainn (Ossian Publications, Cork, Ireland, 1995).
