Mrs. M. H. Baukol Answers Summons

Mrs. M. H. Baukol died at her home in the village here last Saturday evening at 7 o'clock of arterio-sclerosis after an illness lasting several years. She has been in bed since last February.

Funeral services were held yesterday at the Fron church, Rev. H. O. Koefod officiating.

Mrs. Baukol whose maiden name was Marthea Bredeson was born in Solar, Norway, January 10, 1847, and was 72 years of age at the time of her death. She came with her parents to this country when 14 years of age and lived at Decorah, Iowa, for some time. Fifty years ago she came to Pope county and the following year was married to Ole Smedstad. They lived in the town of Barsness. Six children were born them, of whom five are living. A daughter, Lena, died about 12 years ago. Those living are: Mrs. Peter Einarson, Olaf, Alfred and Bennie of Starbuck, and Mrs. E. O. Braaten of Dobray, Minnesota. She also leaves one brother and two sisters living. Mr. Smedstad died 19 years ago last November and Mrs. Smedstad was married six years ago to M H. Baukol who survives her. For a year prior to her marriage to Mr. Baukol and ever since she has lived in the village.

Mrs. Baukol was one of the early pioneers of the county, and was a member of the Fron Congregation from the time of its organization. She was a woman of true Christian character and was devoted in her church work and active in the Ladies' Aid until physical infirmaties caused her to retire. As a mother she was kind and loving, tenderly attached to her children, and always deeply interested in their welfare.

Death came as a welcome relief to physical pain, and her soul winged its way to that beautiful home where there is only joy, peace and happiness.
