I am Professor of Philosophy at St Olaf
College, where I have taught since 1972. During 2000-03
I was half-time as the Boldt Chair in the Humanities, which enabled me

I am currently finishing a book for Georgetown University
Press entitled Civil Disagreement: Personal Integrity in a Pluralistic
Society. It will incorporate some of my articles
on toleration and respect for views one judges to be
wrong. Click on Talks

From August 2003 until February 2004, I and my wife,
Lois, will lead 26 students around the world on St. Olaf's Global Semester.
We visit Geneva, Turkey, Egypt, India, Thailand, China and Korea.
