Here are my four emeriti colleagues, William Narum (top left), Fred Stoutland (top right), Walter Stromseth (bottom left), and Howard Hong. These are the founders and builders of Philosophy as an independent department at St Olaf (as a subject, philosophy was taught at St Olaf since the 19th century, but it became an independent department in 1949). I was very fortunate to join such a fine group of philosophers and friends in 1972. Bill Narum died May 23, 2000. Click here for a history of the St. Olaf Philosophy Department.
