Class Meetings:Class meets from 2:00pm until 2:55pm on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays in Science Center, Room 184.
Textbook: Calculus: Single and Multivariable by Hughes-Hallet, Gleason, McCallum, et al. (4th ed). John Wiley and Sons, Publishers (2005). Readings and homework assignments will be given from this text. It is expected that every student will have access to a personal copy of this book.
Calculators:TI-89 calculators (or equivalent) are strongly recommended. Homework problems and exam questions will make use of the TI-89's specific capabilities. Instructions on the use of the TI-89 will be available. The same may not be the case for other models.
Homework:

Homework will be given daily and will usually be due at the beginning of class two class periods after it is assigned. For example, homework given out on Wednesday will typically be due the following Monday at the beginning of the class. Late homework turned in one class meeting late will be penalized 20% of the earned points. Homework turned in more than one class period late will earn no points and will be corrected at the discretion of the homework grader.

Homework points make up 20% of the course grade. Homework is a requirement of the class. If a significant amount of homework is left undone at the end of the term the effect on a student's grade may be more significant than the normal 20% weight. The precise definition of "significant" in both uses is at my discretion.

In Class Exams:There will be three in-class exams during the course of the semester, each worth 16% of the course grade. The exams will be closed book, closed notes, individual work affairs given during the normal class meeting time. The exams will be given on Monday, October 5th, Monday, November 2nd and Monday, December 7th. It is expected that students will sit for the exam at the scheduled time. Any requests for alternate exam accomodations must be approved by me prior to the scheduled time for the exam.

These examinations are given under the Saint Olaf honor system. Students will be asked to sign the pledge. Jurisdiction over allegations of misconduct involving examinations will fall to the Student Honor Council.

All academic work in this course is subject to the St. Olaf College policies on academic honesty and plagiarism. These can be found at:

Final Exam:The final examination will be given at 9:00a.m. on Monday, December 21st in SC 184. The exam will be cumulative, covering material from throughout the semester. The exam counts for 32% of the course grade. Failure to sit for the final exam is grounds for failure in the course regardless of performance on in-class exams or homework. Requests to take the exam at alternate times must be directed to me prior to the scheduled time for the exam. Generally, such requests will not be granted except for true emergencies. (Keep this in mind when making end-of-term travel plans!!)
Students with Disabilities: Any student with a documented intellectual, physical or emotional disability needing academic accommodations is requested to speak with me during the first two weeks of class. All such discussions will remain confidential. Students with disabilities must also contact Ruth Bolstad (bolstadr@stolaf.edu), or Connie Ford (ford@stolaf.edu) in the Academic Support Center (x3288) located in the Modular Village.
