| Class Meetings: | Class meets from 10:45am to 11:40am on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays in Science Center, Room 188. | ||||||
| Textbook: | Operations Research: Applications and Algorithms (4th ed., 2004) by Wayne L. Winston. Thomson, Brooks/Cole Publishers. Readings and homework assignments will be given from this text. It is expected that every student will have access to a personal copy. | ||||||
| Homework: | Homework will be given weekly. Late homework turned in one class meeting late will be penalized 20% of the earned points. Homework turned in more than one class period late will earn no points and will be corrected at my discretion. Homework points make up 20% of the course grade. Homework is a requirement of the class. If a significant amount of homework is left undone at the end of the term the effect on a student's grade may be more significant than the normal 20% weight would suggest. The precise definition of "significant" in both uses is at my discretion. | ||||||
| Midterm Exam: | There will be one
in-class exam given on March 19th. This exam
will be given during the normal class meeting time.
It is expected that students will sit
for the exam at the scheduled time. Any requests for alternate exam
accomodations must be approved by me prior to the
scheduled time for the exam.
This exam will be worth 25% of the course grade. This examination will be given under the Saint Olaf honor system. Students will be asked to carefully consider the pledge and jurisdiction over allegations of misconduct during or surrounding examinations will fall to the Student Honor Council.
| Mini Project: | A small scale group project involving problem formulation and a written report. This project will be handed out on March 3rd and due on March 10th. Groups of up to three students may turn in a single paper relating to this project. Individual work is also allowed, but not recommended. The project is worth 5% of the course grade. | ||||||
| Full Project: | A large scale group project involving problem formulation and a written report will be assigned near the end of the course. This project will be handed out on April 23rd and due on May 7th. Groups of up to three students may turn in a single paper relating to this project. Individual work is also allowed, but not recommended. The project is worth 10% of the course grade. | ||||||
| Final Exam: | The final examination will be
a take home exam given out on May 5th and due at the end of the
scheduled final exam period for this class, specifically 11:00am on
Friday, May 16th. This exam is worth 40% of the course grade.
Due to the special spring term grading rule for classes with graduating seniors, no extensions to the final exam deadline will be granted unless an official incomplete is granted by the Dean of Students Office.
| Students with Disabilities: | Any student with a documented intellectual, physical or emotional disability needing academic accommodations is requested to speak with me during the first two weeks of class. All such discussions will remain confidential. Students with disabilities must also contact Ruth Bolstad (bolstadr@stolaf.edu), or Connie Ford (ford@stolaf.edu) in the Academic Support Center (x3288).
