| ||
| Class Meetings: | Class meets from 9:05am to 10:00am on Monday, Wednesday and Friday in RNS 206, in The Link. | ||
| Textbook: | Operations Research: Applications and Algorithms (4th ed., 2004) by Wayne L. Winston. Thomson, Brooks/Cole Publishers. Readings and homework assignments will be given from this text. It is expected that every student will have access to a personal copy. | ||
| Homework: | Homework will be given weekly. Late homework turned in one class meeting late will be penalized 20% of the earned points. Homework turned in more than one class period late will earn no points and will be corrected at my discretion. Homework points make up 20% of the course grade. Homework is a requirement of the class. If a significant amount of homework is left undone at the end of the term the effect on a student's grade may be more significant than the normal 20% weight would suggest. The precise definition of "significant" in both uses is at my discretion. | ||
| Midterm Exam: | There will be one
in-class exam given on Friday, March 30th. This exam
will be given during the normal class meeting time.
It is expected that students will sit
for the exam at the scheduled time. Any requests for alternate exam
accomodations must be approved by me prior to the
scheduled time for the exam.
This exam will be worth 25% of the course grade. This examination will be given under the Saint Olaf honor system. Students will be asked to carefully consider the pledge and jurisdiction over allegations of misconduct during or surrounding examinations will fall to the Student Honor Council. | ||
| Mini Project: | A small scale group project involving problem formulation and a written report. This project will be handed out on Friday, February 24th and due on Monday, March 3rd. Groups of up to three students may turn in a single paper relating to this project. Individual work is also allowed, but not recommended. The project is worth 5% of the course grade. | ||
| Full Project: | A large scale group project involving problem formulation and a written report will be assigned near the end of the course. This project will be handed out on Wednesday, April 25th, and due on Monday, May 7th. Groups of up to three students may turn in a single paper relating to this project. Individual work is also allowed, but not recommended. The project is worth 10% of the course grade. | ||
| Final Exam: | The final examination will be a take home exam given out on Wednesday, May 9th and due at the end of the scheduled final exam period for this class, specifically 11:00am on Saturday, May 19th. This exam is worth 40% of the course grade. | ||
| Students with Disabilities: | If you have a documented disability for which accommodations may be required in this class, please contact Connie Ford (ford@stolaf.edu) or Erin Bang (bang@stolaf.edu) in the Academic Support Center (507-786-3288 or Buntrock 108) as soon as possible to arrange accommodations. If you have already presented your documentation and/or arranged accommodations through Student Disability Services, you are required to provide me with your accommodation letter within the first two weeks of class. Accommodations will only be provided after the letter is submitted to me and with sufficient lead-time for me to arrange testing or other accommodations. |
