Virtuosi Chamber Winds

2010-2011
Season 4

Mozart: Serenade in C Minor, K. 388

Mozart: Clarinet Concerto , K.622, (Donald Hunsberger Wind Library)

Guest soloist, Keneth Grant, principal clarinetist of Rochester Philharminc and clarinet professor from Eastman School of Music and special guest conductor, Dr. Timothy Mahr

Inspired by the leadership model demonstrated by the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, Dr. Jun Qian founded the Virtuosi Chamber Winds at St. Olaf College in 2007.  That model delegates musical decisions for the ensemble’s performance choices to the musicians collectively instead of to a single director.  Dr. Qian selects ensemble members through auditions that are open to all St. Olaf students. Exploring the important wind chamber repertoire for eight to thirteen players, the Virtuosi Chamber Winds presents itself in concerts throughout the St. Olaf spring semester.
