About Anne

Anne first came to the United States from Norway in 1995. After three years at the University of Oslo, studying history and philosophy, she completed a M.A. and Ph.D. in Comparative Literature at the University of Washington. In 1999, she arrived at St. Olaf College where she is now employed as Associate Professor of Norwegian. Anne teaches courses in Norwegian and English, including literature, film, and culture. She also enjoys teaching for Great Conversation and Women's Studies.

Anne's fields of research include fin-de-siècle literature, contemporary Scandinavian film and literature, and gender and sexuality studies. Most recently she has been researching how women (and some men) have begun to re-vision pornography, arguing that these re-visions reveal the potential of pornography as a discourse that may provide women and men more 'playfield' to establish and express their gender and sexuality than do the dominating discourses for heterosexuality, thus possibly alleviating some of the oppressive gender claustrophobia many women and men experience.
