Necessary tools: Calculator to bring to class, Minitab Software, on St. Olaf network
Nice to have: If you have access to a TI-83 or TI-89 calculator, it will do many statistical tasks for you.  However, you may bring any calculator to class, including the kind you might find a the checkout counter at a grocery store.

Grading Policy: 2 Midterm Tests:  200 points
Final Exam:  150 points
Homework, Card Quizzes and Labs  100-150 points 
Chapter Quizzes  50-100 points 

Total  500-600 points 



Attendance Policy: Since many statistics activities will be done in class, attendance is required at each class.  More than three absences may lower your grade.


Other Information

  1. Preview Assignments and Daily Quizzes:

  2. You will be expected to read and take notes on the material prior to the day that we cover it in class. You will also be asked to write answers to Turn On Your Mind questions in the new reading and work some preview exercises that will not be handed in. You will use your reading outlines and preview exercises in several ways:
  3. Collected Assignments: Practice and extension assignments based on the material discussed in class will be collected at the next class after they are assigned. (Students who need extra help can get permission to hand the homework in during office hours later that day    Homework will include both written and computer assignments and will cover computer labs as well as readings and class discussions. You are encouraged to work with other class members to do your homework assignments. The current and back assignments can be found on the class web page at www.stolaf.edu/people/wallace/Courses/Statistics/110assign04f.html. Be sure to bookmark this address since you will be responsible for assignments whether or not you write them down in class! No late homework will be accepted. However,  the three lowest daily homework scores will be deleted from consideration when grades are calculated, to allow for emergencies or illness.
  4. Quizzes and Tests:  In addition to homework assignments, you will have three kinds of assessments;
  5. Getting Help:   I am glad to answer questions or talk about your homework during my office hours and at other times by appointment. You may also e-mail questions to me and you should check your electronic mail between classes for hints and clarifications on assignments.  Starting on Monday, October 4, you can also drop in to the Center for Interdisciplinary Research, Science Center 177 to ask an upper-class statistics student questions at the following times
Monday 1 to 2:30 p.m.
Tuesday 7:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Wednesday 1 to 2:30 p.m.
Thursday 4 to 5 p.m
