I have a dream. In this dream, I am part of a pit crew at LeMans, working on a Porsche 917, in particular Gulf Porsche #20
(a car that is still alive and now in private hands).
The driver of the car is Steve McQueen (now gone from cancer, of all things).
He patiently waits while I diagnose and repair a problem with with the rear wishbone of the car.
When I am done, the car fires and revs into the high region of the sound spectrum. McQueen gets the nod, climbs back in, and launches back into traffic.
I smile and wipe the grease off my hands, kick back and wait for him to come around again, pushing 200. I am very happy.
In fact, about as close as I will get to this dream, which is portrayed in one of many truly unforgettable scenes from the film "LeMans", is diagnosing and fixing one of the sector devices on Mike, my lab robot.
But that's OK. It's a great dream.
