Many hundreds of technical illustrations were prepared either by myself (such as the optical rail mechanical drawing shown below) or under my supervision by my graduate students (such as the flow-jet scanned from Dr. John Rentner's Ph.D. thesis) while I was on the faculty at the University of Wisconsin, Madison (1965-1982). These were all done by hand using drafting equipment and technical pens, in india ink, with LeRoy lettering templates to make the legends. Now, with CAD programs, their preparation is far simpler. I prepare drawings like these, and of higher complexity, for lab manuals and journal publications.
