Cross-Country Skiing

Instead of the usual list of links to race results and discussion groups, I am trying to create a series of pages that describe different aspects of xc-skiing: technique, waxing, training, racing, touring etc. I doubt they'll ever get much attention, but it'll be nice to have ready-made handouts for the clinics I occasionally coach.

Please send along any ski-related questions you might have. If I can't give you an answer, I will try to direct you to someone who probably can.

Technique - A few hand-outs from past clinics. These will be expanded at some point.

  • Classical Technique
  • Skating Technique
  • Training - these pages will take some time. In the meantime, this is what I have.

Waxing Tips- mostly my own insights & experience, a little scientific info. There is information for both tourists and novice racers. Currently under construction.

  • Classical Waxing
  • Waxing for Skating
  • Wooden Ski Preparation
  • Temperature Conversions
  • Buying Equipment - I have received many inquiries about buying skis or questions that turned out to be a result of buying the wrong skis. However, this topic has all kinds of pitfalls, so please take this information as only an independent opinion. Each skier will have to judge his or her own ability level and needs.

  • Classical Skis
  • Poles

  • I have been taught and coached for many years. Many of those who contributed to my racing and coaching career can be found on this page of acknowledgements.
