ADDITIONAL PROGRAM FUNDING
Past Programs
Selected faculty members were awarded one course-release time to reflect on and implement vocational components into their existing or newly created courses. The Lilly Sustainability Grant provides funding to create intentional opportunities for these faculty members to continue their dialogue on how the implementation has impacted their students' discernment process.
The Lilly Program created the position of the Lilly Vocational Scholar to encourage and enable published academic scholarship on the theological consideration of vocation. Members of the St. Olaf faculty, particularly those in the departments of philosophy and religion, have well-established records of publication on topics relating to the theological consideration of vocation. Funds provided by the program allowed release time of one course in each semester to the Lilly Vocational Scholar to facilitate this publication in an intentional way. In addition, Lilly Vocational Scholars contributed inspiration and intellectual leadership to faculty development activities organized by the program.
Summer Bible Camp Stipends
Working as a Bible/Church camp counselor can be a powerful opportunity for personal growth, service to others and discernment of one's career. The Lilly Grant provided stipends for students working in these positions over the summer during the original grant period. The funds allowed twelve students to supplement their bible camp salaries. In exchange, the students were asked to participate in at least one service activity the following year.
