Civic Engagement Program

CIVIC ENGAGEMENT

"Civic engagement means working to make a difference in the civic life of our communities and developing the combination of knowledge, skills, values and motivation to make that difference. It means promoting the quality of life in a community, through both political and non-political processes."
-Ehrlick, T., Civic Responsibilitiy and Higher Education

Program Summary

The Civic Engagement Program in the Center for Experiential Learning supports students in developing the skills, knowledge and experience necessary for engaged and responsible citizenship. The program supports a liberal arts education by fostering critical thinking, public problem-solving, communication and leadership skills.  A focus of the program is to collaborate with faculty to support academic civic engagement projects that are integrated into courses. Co-curricular civic engagement initiatives compliment academic coursework and provide opportunities for students to learn about public issues and foster social change.
