St. Olaf Funded Internships
Internship experience is an essential component to your education.
While there are many factors that impact success in the job search, internship experience will make students more competitive candidates and will inform students’ decisions in important and meaningful ways as they develop and pursue post-graduate plans.
The key characteristics of St. Olaf Funded Internships are:
- Significant financial support for otherwise unpaid work
- Enhanced support and higher-level involvement from St. Olaf staff, faculty, and alumni
- A focus on vocational discernment, civic engagement, and skill building
- Reflection on learning as part of a cohort of peers with similar goals and interests
- Interdisciplinary teams of students collaborating on a real-work projects
Generic Funding for Unpaid or Underpaid Internships (Interim or Summer)
The Piper Center is pleased to offer funding for students pursuing unpaid or underpaid internships during Interim or summer. This funding can be applied to any internship, rotational shadowing, or research experience students find themselves that meet the minimum parameters. The Piper Center can also assist students with the process of finding and selecting an internship.

Davis Projects for Peace (Summer)
Davis Projects for Peace is an invitation to undergraduates (including seniors) at the American colleges and universities in the Davis United World College Scholars Program to design grassroots projects that they will implement during the summer. Through a competition on over 90 campuses, the most promising projects will be selected for funding at $10,000 each. One, and possibly two, projects from St. Olaf typically receive the award. Final decisions on all grants are made by the Davis UWC Scholars Program office.

Hennepin County Medical Center Internship & Research (Summer)
The Hennepin County Medical Center Internship & Research program provides current St. Olaf students an unparalleled hands-on experience at the Hennepin County Medical Center (HCMC) in Minneapolis, MN. HCMC is known for its dedication to providing care to vulnerable, diverse, and underserved populations regardless of their ability to pay for medical services.

Leaders for Social Change (Summer)
The Leaders for Social Change program provides an opportunity for students to complete an internship or research project in Northfield or the Twin Cities while participating in ongoing academic and vocational reflection with faculty, staff, community leaders and alumni. Students gain professional experience, discern their vocations and develop leadership skills that prepare them to foster the common good in future civic and work roles.

Legal Scholars Program (Summer)
The Legal Scholars Program offers an opportunity for students to perform intensive legal research and serve in a legal support role to social impact oriented law clinics at the University of Minnesota, University of St. Thomas, William Mitchell College of Law, and Drake University law schools. Students will contribute to the work of the clinic under the direction of the clinic director/law school faculty member, and become more knowledgeable about law and legal services while contributing to legal clinics serving diverse populations.

Mayo Innovation Scholars (Interim or Summer)
The Mayo Innovation Scholars Program offers an opportunity for students with academic background in any of the natural sciences, economics, management or media studies, mathematics, or with other relevant experience to evaluate projects submitted to the Mayo Clinic Ventures, the arm of Mayo responsible for evaluating potential business opportunities for discoveries and inventions created by Mayo Clinic physicians and researchers.
