WHAT IS THE EDUCATION JOB FAIR?
All the Minnesota colleges and universities with teacher preparation programs work together to present this job fair for certified teachers. The fair offers you the opportunity to talk to and perhaps interview with many school districts at one location. The fair offers school district representatives (most of whom are from outside of the Midwest) the opportunity to interview teacher candidates from institutions nationally recognized as leaders in teacher education programs. The purpose of the Education Job Fair is to connect teacher candidates with teaching vacancies in a convenient and cost-effective format.
WHO MAY PARTICIPATE?
Candidate must be educated at a MN college and licensed to teach or be qualified for an educational service area such as: counselor, speech therapist, social worker, etc. by January 2014. All other candidates are prohibited from attending.
WHO SHOULD PARTICIPATE?
The fair attracts districts from a large number of states, with heavy representation from Minnesota and the Southwest (Arizona, Texas, California). Check the list of districts registered for the MN Education Job Fair to see the geographical representation for this year's fair.
Because many of the school districts attending the fair are from outside the Midwest, teachers willing to relocate will benefit greatly from this event. In the past, St. Olaf grads have seen teaching outside of Minnesota as a way to gain experience that will help them access a Minnesota position at a later date.
The Minnesota districts that participate in the fair usually build applicant pools from interviews conducted at the fair. A face-to-face encounter with Minnesota district officials makes a stronger impression than paper materials submitted to district offices, so attendance at the fair can be an "in" with Minnesota districts.
WHAT IS THE REGISTRATION PROCEDURE?
Electronically register for the fair and then mail a check for $20.00 (made out to St. Olaf College-Education Job Fair) to the Piper Center. Registration will close at 5:00 p.m. on April 10th. On-site registration is $30.00. Once registered, you will receive an e-mail confirmation of your registration; all communication about the fair will be conducted via e-mail.
WHAT OTHER PREPARATIONS ARE NECESSARY?
Instructions to help you prepare for the fair can be found on our web site. All participants will need to bring a sufficient number of resumes to hand to district officials at the fair. Also bring several copies of your references to leave if you get the chance to interview. Those who have finished student teaching should have their self-managed credential file compiled; bring several copies of the credential file to the fair.
If you have any questions about registration, whether to attend the fair or about preparing for the fair, feel free to call either Janine or Andrea at 507-786-3268.
