2’s, 4’s and 6’s Sand Volleyball Rules

Schedules for the league will be posted on the bulletin boards located right next to P E / Athletics Office in Skoglund

 

RESPONSIBILITIES OF MANAGERS AND/OR CAPTAINS OF TEAMS

1.        Read-know the rules.  Have a team meeting.

2.        Control teammates and your spectators.

3.        Represent your team at meeting and during games.

 

ELIGIBILITY

1.        To be eligible, a player must be currently enrolled at St. Olaf, or be a current faculty/staff member.

2.        All eligibility protests must be settled within 24 hrs. after the game or when the protested first enters the game.

3.        Play for one team ONLY!

4.        All players must play in one regular season game to be eligible for the tournament.

5.        Violation of any of the above may mean forfeiture of the game and/or season.

 

PRE-GAME

1.        Teams must sign in all possible players 5 minutes before the scheduled game time on the score sheet.  This must be given to the Supervisor 5 minutes before game time

2.        Pre-game talk with captains:

(a) Ground rules           (b) Captains questions        (c) Coin toss for home team

3.        Games will start as quickly as possible, so that the maximum time can be used for the game.  If a team is LATE, pre-game practice for that team will be DENIED.

4.        Forfeit time is 5 minutes past the hour.  Each team must have at least 2 players to start

 

TEAM

2-on-2 : A team consists of 2 players.  A team must have two to start a game.  If a team doesn’t have 2 players by five minutes after the scheduled starting time, that team will forfeit the contest.

4-on-4 : A team consists of 4 players.  A team must have two to start a game.  If a team doesn’t have 2 players by five minutes after the scheduled starting time, that team will forfeit the contest.

6-on-6 : A team consists of six players.  A team must have two to start a game.  If a team doesn’t have 2 players by five minutes after the scheduled starting time, that team will forfeit the contest.

 

RULES

1.       All team members must be listed on the team roster in the Intramural Sports Office (13 Skoglund).  Team captain’s can make changes to team rosters, however, no roster additions will be allowed after completion of regular season play.  Additions MUST be made by completing the Add/Delete form 24 hours prior to your scheduled match.

2.       All players must have current, valid St. Olaf College ID on the court in order to play.

3.        JEWELRY:  ABSOLUTELY NO JEWELRY!!  All jewelry MUST come off!

4.       Teams may start with 2 players.  If a team at any time has less than 2 players on the court the game will be forfeited at that point.  (Co-Rec:  If playing with 2 players, you must have one male and one female.  Open:  Any combination of males and females)

5.       Server can serve from anywhere behind the back line.

6.       When playing with 4 players, the server is a back row player and can NOT attack the ball.  If a team is playing with 3 players, the server is not considered a back row player and can attack the ball.

7.       Feet can be over centerline as long as there is NO INTERFERENCE with the players on the other side.  If interference then point or side out is awarded.

8.       Co-Rec 4’s teams consist of 2 males and 2 females.  If a team is playing with 3 players you can play with one female and two males or two females and one male, but when playing with 4 players, you must have 2 males and 2 females or more females than males. Co-Rec 6’s teams consist of 3 males and 3 females.  If a team is playing with 3 players you can play with one female and two males or two females and one male, but when playing with 6 players, males can not outnumber the females.

9.       A game consists of twenty-one (21) points.  A team must win by two (2) points.

 

10.   A volleyball match will consist of the best two (2) out of three (3) games (3rd game to 15 points).

11.   Players may set the serve. 

12.   NO BLOCKING or ATTACKING the serve.

13.   One (1) time out, thirty (30) seconds in length per team per game.

14.   Any player that is bleeding must leave the game immediately.  The bleeding must be stopped and the wound securely covered with a bandage before that player can continue playing.

15.   All players must play in one regular season game to be eligible for playoffs.

16.  Tournaments:  Teams need to be ready and able to play and day Sun-Thurs.  Sundays times 2:00-8:00pm and Mondays-Thursdays 4:00-8:00pm.

17.     Forfeit: A forfeit will be called after 5 min. of scheduled start time.  Anytime 2 players from a team have been ejected from a game for unsportsmanlike conduct, flagrant foul or fighting; the game will be declared a forfeit for the team.

1st Forfeit: $5 re-entry fee, which must be paid within 24 hours of the forfeit.

                2nd Forfeit: Team is automatically dropped from league

18.     Ejections: Please see attached sheet on SUSPENSION AND RULES OF CONDUCT and EJECTIONS.

19.  Alcohol: It is the College policy that alcoholic beverages may not be consumed on College property.  Please help us enforce this police with you, your teammates and your spectators.  If your team of fans fail to cooperate, it may result in forfeiture of the game and possibly suspended from the IM program.

20.  Weather: PLEASE DO NOT CALL UNTIL 3:00 PM TO FIND OUT IF THE GAMES ARE GOING TO BE CANCELED.           Due to inclement weather, games may not be able to be rescheduled.
