2v2 Volleyball Rules
POSTINGS
Schedules for the league will be posted on the
bulletin boards located right next to P E / Athletics Office in Skoglund.
1.
EQUIPMENT
A.
Team captains or representatives may check out a
maximum of one (1) volleyball with a valid College ID from the equipment
room. The supervisor will supply the
game ball. The teams can decide on which
ball to use for game.
2.
PLAYERS
A.
A player may play on only one team. Players must have a valid St. Olaf ID to be listed on the roster. Players must play in one (1) regular season
game to be eligible to play in the playoffs.
- A team
consists of two (2) players.
- Teams
may have one (1) current intercollegiate volleyball player on their
roster.
- Free
substitution is permitted. Players
must substitute from the same position throughout the game; except in the
case of an injury.
- Adding to your Roster: In order to add or delete players to or
from your roster you MUST fill out an ADD/DELETE form and return it to the
Intramural Sports Office NO LATER
than the day before your scheduled contest.
3.
THE GAME
A.
An official match will be the best 2 out of 3 games. Games 1 and 2 will be played to 25 points,
using regular scoring. The third game, if necessary, will be played to 15
points All games are RALLY SCORING. Teams
MUST win by 2 points.
B.
There will be NO
time limit for any matches in the playoffs.
- A coin
flip or odd/even call at the start of the first and third game will
determine choice of serve and court side.
Teams will change sides at the end of the first game. Team who did NOT serve the first game serves first the second game. At the beginning of the third game, a
coin flip will be conducted to determine serving team.
- Teams
have five (5) minutes after scheduled start time to begin play, if they
are missing players the game will be forfeited.
- 1st Forfeit: $5
re-entry fee, which must be paid within 24 hours of the forfeit.
2nd forfeit:
Team is automatically DROPPED from the league!
- Teams
are allowed one (1) time-out per game of 30 seconds in length.
4.
RULES
A.
Net height will be 7’10 ¾” for coed.
- Except
for the serve, the ball may be contacted by any part of the body above the
waist.
- NO BLOCKING or ATTACKING the
serve. (First contact on a side
after a serve must be a pass or a set).
- Teams
may set the serve.
- The
serve may NOT hit the net.
- Ceiling
lights and ceiling objects are in play on your side of the net.
- The
ball is out of play as soon as it enters another court.
- Reaching
over the net is only permitted during the follow through of a hit attempt,
and during a block or block attempt.
- Players
can serve anywhere behind the end line.
The server has five (5) seconds to serve the ball after the
referee’s signal (whistle) to serve.
The server must release the ball out of his/her hands before
contacting it on the serve. The
severer can NOT step on the end
line to serve, or step over the end line until the ball has been
contacted. If the server
intentionally serves before the whistle by the official, it is
automatically a side-out. This call
is at the discretion of the official.
