IM Badminton 2009 Rules and Regulations:
(Doubles and Singles Badminton)
**All games are played to 21 points --- win by 2!
**Rally Scoring is the official scoring for badminton!
Scoring System
· A match consists of single game of 21 points.
· Every time there is a serve – there is a point scored.
· The side winning a rally adds a point to its score.
Doubles:
(follow rules for “Scoring System”)
1) Each side has only one “set” - only one partner has a chance to score points.
2) At the beginning of the game and when the score is even, the server serves from the right service court. When it is odd, the server serves from the left court.
· If the serving side wins a rally, the serving side scores a point and the same server serves again from the alternate service court.
· If the receiving side wins a rally, the receiving side scores a point. The receiving side becomes the new serving side.
· The players do not change their respective service courts until they win a point when their side is serving.
Singles:
(follow rules for “Scoring System”)
1) At the beginning of the game and when the score is even, the server serves from the right service court. When it is odd, the server serves from the left court.
2) If the receiving side wins a rally, the receiving side scores a point. The receiving side becomes the new serving side.
3) The players do not change their respective service courts until they win a point when their side is serving.
Hits/Etiquette:
1) All serves must be below the waist, and the racket head must be below the wrist --- NO OVERHEAD SERVES!!!
2) To determine the serve at the beginning of the game, flip the birdie. Whoever it points to may choose serve or side. If they choose to serve or not to serve, their opponent may choose the preferred side and vice versa.
3) Please go over lines before the game begins so that both you and your opponent are familiar with the differences between serving lines in doubles and singles.
4) Have fun! J
