PEER ADVISOR WEEKLY WORDS OF WISDOM

"Whether for full-time or internship opportunities, it's interview season for many of us. Securing an interview with the company of your dreams is just the first step; then it's up to you to be as prepared as possible. Be sure to consult the interviewing page on the CEL Web site, which is listed under tools and resources. Not surprisingly, the best resource to help you prepare is often a current employee who's been through the interview process with the company. Be sure to check the Online Alumni Directory to see if there is an alum working at the company you're interviewing with. If not, contact the company's Human Resources department and ask if they will help you get in touch with someone who will grant you an informational interview. Often, all of the candidates who secure interviews are qualified for a given position, and thus, the interviewer's decision comes down to which one will be the best fit with the corporate culture and the company's values. So, if you are prepared to communicate your qualifications and do your homework through informational interviews, the corporate web site, and sometimes even Google or Wikipedia, you can demonstrate in your interview that you are that best-fit candidate. Now go impress some interviewers!"

-Laura Oliver '09, Peer Advisor
