TEKLA ANDERSON
Tell me a little bit about what you did over the summer, and how it will prepare you for the future that you envision for yourself. (Where you worked, what you did, what skills your acquired, etc.).
This summer I worked at Coborn's Pharmacy in Albertville, MN which is a retail pharmacy chain. I worked as a pharmacy technician and some of my responsibilities included: inputting and filling prescriptions, answering phone calls, interacting with customers, and processing orders. The experience was helpful because not only did it reaffirm that pharmacy is the right path for me, but it also enabled me to interact with professionals in the field and learn about pharmacy in a more hands-on way. I also spent a great deal of time this summer filling out my PharmCAS application (a common application accepted by many pharmacy schools) and working on my personal statement.
What CEL resources have you used to prepare for graduate school, career exploration or pharmacy?
When I initially started considering pharmacy, I used the CEL's resources (both books and online) to research the profession. I have also used the CEL to help write and revise my resume. Most recently, the CEL helped me prepare for my pharmacy school interviews by providing me with the opportunity to have a live practice interview with extremely helpful feedback.
Describe one way in which you grew as a result of your career preparation/work in the pharmacy?
The preparation work I have done for pharmacy school on my own and with the help of the CEL has helped me stay organized and calm during the overwhelming process of applying for pharmacy school. My work in the pharmacy has taught me how to better deal with conflict and be more objective.
Have a fantastic Winter Break !
