INTERNSHIPS

 

Executive Assistant / Living Services Foundation
Application Deadline: Friday, May 1— Work in New Brighton, Minnesota this summer for a non-profit that owns and operates long-term health care campuses and nursing facilities.  This is small and rapidly growing organization that currently owns two facilities, with two acquisitions to be completed by the fall.  This internship will allow a student to observe and learn the business relating to the operation of nursing homes and senior housing products.  Attend operational and Board of Director meetings. Work will be project based, building new projects, while assisting with the new acquisitions and setting up office systems to prepare for future operational growth.  Applicants should have strong writing, organizational and analytical skills, demonstrate effectiveness in working independently and managing large projects, and be able to interact well people.  A cover letter and resume are to be submitted by Friday, May 1 in preparation for interviews the first week of May.  Questions? Park Ranger Internship / National Park Service
Application Deadline: Monday, May 4 — Work at the Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River this summer.  This park has 73 miles of the Upper Delaware River, remnants of the D&H Canal and the home of novelist Zane Grey.   This site of this location is in Beach Lake, Pennsylvania at the Division of Interpretation.  Interns will work with park visitors, community groups and youth camps while staffing river access sites, presenting safety talks, performing river patrols, and developing and presenting educational programs on geology, hydrology, ecosystems, and the natural and cultural history of the river valley.  Interns will receive two week of training on the National Park Service, education program development, First Aid, CPR, and canoe and white water rescue.  Housing and a daily stipend are provided for interns.  Mileage will be reimbursed. Applicants must be outgoing, enjoy working with adults and children, and have access to a vehicle for the summer in order to complete duties along the river. Market Research Intern, Institutional Marketing / Ultralingua, Inc
Application Deadline: Sunday, May 31 —  Work for a leading software provider based in Minneapolis, which provides web-based high-quality language tools for business, education and travel markets.  Ultralingua, Inc. is looking for a researcher to document the purchase process for governments and government agencies, schools, and large corporations.  This intern will be a part of the marketing team and will gain experience in market research and institutional purchasing.  Research the answers questions such as, “How is the buying decision made and by whom?”  Candidates should be motivated, disciplined, able to work independently, experience with RSS feeds and HTML, and preferably fluent in a non-English language. Education and Enrichment VISTA/ Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Greater Twin Cities (BBBS)
Application Deadline: Friday, May 1 — This full-time, year-long position with AmeriCorps begins August 3, 2009. Work to contribute college access and college enrichment programming with BBBS, focusing on programming to youth in grades 7-11.  Connect youth and mentors to resources related to academic engagement and postsecondary experiences.  Work collaboratively across BBBS on the development of the Education and Enrichment program to be able to expand towards serving younger ages. Develop a system for tracking program alumni to ensure continued engagement, assist in grant writing to secure funding for program growth, assist the marketing staff to create a platform and curriculum for a national replica of the program, and expand partnerships with corporate partners, college access programs and schools in order to increase access for BBBS youth. Applicants should have a degree related to youth development or education, have knowledge of public education, experience with managing partner relationships and knowledge of the Achievement Gap.  The VISA member will receive a modest allowance, health insurance, federal student loan forbearance, mileage reimbursement and an educational award or cash stipend upon completion of service. State Department Information Session
Monday, April 27, 6:00 pm, BC 142— Career diplomat Brian Flora will be on campus to present on career and internship opportunities in the Foreign Service. The Department of State is the Federal agency responsible for the formulation and implementation of U.S. foreign policy.  The Department’s personnel represent the U.S. and protect its interests and citizens around the world.  The State Department seeks high caliber employees with the skills and competencies needed to deal with the demands of the coming decades.  It recruits a diverse group of individuals with knowledge not only in areas traditionally associated with diplomacy (such as history, political science, international relations, and economics), but also those with backgrounds in business, office management, public administration, natural sciences, communications, law, information management and security.  Its 25,000 U.S. employees (Foreign Officers and Specialists and Civil Servants) serve domestically, primarily in Washington DC, and at 265 embassies and consulates in over 160 foreign countries.  This year and next they will be hiring around 700 political, economic, consular, management, and public affairs officers and over 400 specialists.  For more information, and to apply for positions or an internship, visit the Department of State Careers Web site.

Massachusetts Promise Fellowship
The Massachusetts Promise Fellowship is a statewide, youth development AmeriCorps program dedicated to providing a better future for children and youth in Massachusetts. The 30 chosen Fellows serve at non-profit organizations, schools, and city agencies across the state leading a variety of initiatives related to youth, including youth leadership development, mentoring, after-school enrichment, youth outreach and education, and volunteer recruitment and coordination.  During their year of service, the Fellows are highly supported and receive numerous trainings to enhance their personal and professional development. As a consortium of nonprofit public business assistance agencies, buzgate.org provides easy-to-use information, guidance, and resources targeted at supporting small business start-up, growth and profitability. Find small business solutions for everything from accounting, finance, sales, and marketing insurance, management, and human resources.
