Internship Spotlight

Khider Elnimeiry is a senior with majors in Biology and Religion. This year, Khider will complete an internship through the Institute for Language and Communication Studies (ILCS) out of Morocco. He will be a Medical Intern, working in a hospital. While in Morocco, he will have the opportunity to apply his knowledge of Arab culture and language.  We asked Khider the following questions about his upcoming internship:

Q: How did you find out about your internship opportunity?
A: I found out about this internship from a student who previously did the internship last interim through the CEL.
Q: What are you most looking forward to?
A: I am interested in a career in medicine but I am looking for an opportunity that would connect me to the medical field somehow and be in a hospital atmosphere and a really good hospital type setting using my Arabic language there as well. So I feel like this internship will serve the purpose really well.
Q: Are there any aspects of this internship experience that you are worried about?
A: I am scared somewhat because this will be the first time I will travel outside the country alone. This is an independent internship, so everything I will do until I get there and when I get there will be on my own. I am a little scared - I wish there were someone else doing the internship with me, but I am looking forward to doing this internship no matter what the consequences are.
Q: When you grow up, what do you want to be?
A: More specifically I have an interest in becoming an orthopedic surgeon. I have had experience with bone and knee surgeries which have inspired me in the medical profession. My internship will be at a children's hospital in Morocco.
Q: Any advice for other students starting their own internship search?
A: My advice will be that if you are planning to do any independent internship outside the country or inside the country, always go to the CEL because they have everything you need to know about interships and also start doing necessary procedures for internships early as possible. I prepared for this internship a year in advance, just so I had time to decide and have other internship options.

If you’re interested in an exciting internship abroad like Khider’s, stop by the CEL today!
