Student Spotlight

Andrew Foxwell a junior this year and shares his experience at the MN Private Colleges Job and Internship Fair.
1. What did you do to prepare for the Fair?
I met with various people in the CEL who looked over my resume and cover letter ten times total. I also decided to take action and sent my resume and cover letter to six companies so that I could immediately connect with them at the fair. One more helpful thing I did was purchase black socks and get my suit dry-cleaned!
2. Which CEL events or services were most helpful in preparing you for the Fair?
The student workers in the CEL helping me prepare for the fair and the required session before hand.
3. How did you research the companies and organizations at the Fair?
I researched them through the job/internship website and then found what positions they were offering. If those positions applied to me, I went to their website and worked diligently to find out a lot about their company so when I approached them at the fair they could tell I had done research.
4. What was the outcome for you as a result of attending the Fair?
I had three callbacks and three interviews. I got offered a position at Datacard Group in Minnetonka in an International Marketing internship.
5. Looking back, is there anything you would have done differently to prepare?
I would have tried to get prepared earlier so I wasn't stressing as much about it.
6. What was the most unexpected feature or aspect of the Fair?
The fair is a little intimidating at first, but then after a couple laps, you just concentrate and realize that what you have to offer is just as good as everyone else. Many people look good at the fair, but I was surprised through listening to them talk to companies that they didn't know how to approach them and actually communicate.
7. Any advice for this year's attendees?
Get prepared and informed on the companies you are interested in. Also, be persistent with calling after the fair and letting them know that it was nice to meet them. In reality, I am sure there were more qualified people for the internship I had, but I was persistent on continuing to call them and it paid off.
