The purpose of the Academic Internship Learning Agreement & Plan is to have the student think intentionally about her/his learning goals prior to beginning the internship experience; these goals will facilitate the learning process throughout the internship.

There is no minimum or maximum number of learning goals a student must have. Students should be thoughtful in their consideration of the categories listed on the form and write learning goals that are reflective, intentional, and relevant to their internship experience. Each goal should be complemented with a strategy, if applicable, showing how the intern will develop the stated goal(s). The following steps will ensure students are successful in completing this portion of the Learning Agreement form.
-
Student intern creates a rough draft of her/his learning goals and strategies. Sample learning goals and strategies: domestic, international.
-
Draft is shared with both the faculty supervisor and site supervisor for feedback.
-
Faculty supervisor assigns academic activities for each category that will allow for assessment/evaluation of student's learning goals and achievements during the internship.

-
Site supervisor reviews the goals and strategies and agrees to support the student's efforts to achieve her/his stated learning goals.
-
The student incorporates changes or suggestions and finalizes the learning goals.
These steps must be taken in order to obtain the CEL's signature on the form. Questions can be directed to the CEL staff member overseeing the internships program.
